Pomerantz Ranked by Benchmark Litigation as a Top Plaintiffs’ Securities Litigation Firm; Partners Honored as Litigation Stars

Benchmark Litigation has recognized Pomerantz LLP as one of the top plaintiffs’ securities litigation firms in the U.S. for 2021 and honored individual Pomerantz partners as litigation stars.

Benchmark praised Pomerantz’s “prodigious capacity for cases and its tenacity to keep pursuing them,” citing the “eye-popping $3 billion settlement” with Petrobras, the Brazilian energy giant, that was achieved by the Firm as sole lead counsel for the class, along with lead plaintiff Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited.

That 2018 settlement stands as the largest securities class action settlement in a decade, the largest settlement ever in a class action involving a foreign issuer, the largest settlement ever achieved by a foreign lead plaintiff, the largest class action settlement ever not to involve a restatement of financials and the fifth-largest class action settlement ever achieved in the United States.

Pomerantz is the oldest law firm in the world dedicated to representing defrauded investors. Throughout its history, Pomerantz has shaped the law, winning landmark decisions that have expanded investor rights and initiated historic corporate governance reform. The Firm’s securities litigation practice, led by Managing Partner Jeremy A. Lieberman, represents institutional and individual plaintiffs in class and private actions. Pomerantz’s clients include some of the most influential pension funds, asset managers and institutional investors from around the globe.

Managing Partner Jeremy A. Lieberman and Partners Patrick Dahlstrom and Emma Gilmore were honored by Benchmark Litigation as Litigation Stars in recognition of their accomplishments as “outstanding individuals” who are “highly regarded by their peers and possess a strong case record” that is supported by positive client feedback. Benchmark notes that these partners and the rest of the Firm have “kept exceedingly busy” with securities litigation, including setting “important, ground-breaking precedent for global investors in Perrigo with the first certification of parallel classes of investors, domestic and international, that purchased dually listed securities on the New York Stock Exchange and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange” and pursuing “closely watched multi-district litigation alleges that the class suffered damages as a result of collusive manipulation by the LIBOR contributor panel banks that artificially suppressed the LIBOR rate during the class period, causing the class members to receive lower interest payments than they would have otherwise received.”

Emma Gilmore was also honored as one of the Top 250 Women in Litigation, recognition for women who have “earned their place amongst the leading female litigators by participating in some of the most impactful litigation matters in recent history as well as by earning the hard-won respect of their peers and clients.”

Partner and Head of Client Services Jennifer Pafiti was honored as a Future Star. Jennifer played a leading role in the Petrobras litigation and spearheads the Firm’s PomTrack® Portfolio Monitoring Service, a proprietary system with which Pomerantz monitors over $5.7 trillion of its global clients’ assets, utilizing state-of-the-art technology and a team of attorneys, forensic economists, damages analysts, paralegals, and professional staff.  Jennifer also leads the Firm’s institutional investor educational initiatives, organizing conferences around the world.

Partners Michael Grunfeld and Austin P. Van were added to Benchmark’s 40 and Under Hot List, honored as being two of the “best and brightest law firm partners who stand out in their practices… ready to take the reins from previous generations… juggling their flourishing careers and personal lives, and all while staying on top of their industry.” Benchmark goes on to say that Hotlist members are “among the top young talent in their respective litigation communities in the U.S. & Canada.”
