Pomerantz Elevates Four Attorneys to Of Counsel

Pomerantz LLP is proud to announce the promotions of attorneys Jennifer Banner Sobers, Samuel J. Adams, Veronica V. Montenegro and Omar Jafri to Of Counsel.

Jennifer Banner Sobers focuses her practice on securities litigation. She played an integral role on a securities class action that arose from a multi-billion-dollar kickback and bribery scheme involving Brazil’s largest oil company, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. - Petrobras. The Firm, as sole Lead Counsel, achieved a historic $3 billion settlement on behalf of defrauded investors. In 2020, Super Lawyers®, New York Law Journal and Law360 honored Jennifer with Rising Star awards. In 2019 and 2020, Jennifer was honored as a member of the National Black Lawyers Top 100, an elite network of the top 100 African American attorneys from each state. Jennifer graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was recognized for her pro bono service, and received her B.A. from Harvard University, cum laude with honors.

Samuel J. Adams focuses his practice on corporate governance litigation. Sam helped secure a $5.6 million settlement on behalf of a class of shareholders of Physicians Formula Holdings, Inc. following an ignored merger offer. He played a key role in achieving the settlement in Strougo v. Hollander, which provides for a 25% price increase for members of the class cashed out in the going-private transaction and established that fee-shifting bylaws adopted after a challenged transaction do not apply to stockholders affected by the transaction. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star for every year from 2015 through 2020. Sam is a 2009 graduate of the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.

Veronica V. Montenegro focuses her practice on securities litigation. Prior to joining the Firm, Veronica served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the New York State Attorney General where, in recognition of her work in the Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities Working Group, Veronica was awarded the Louis Lefkowitz Award for Exceptional Service.  At Pomerantz, Veronica played an integral role, and was the lead associate, in a securities class action against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as well as a case for common law fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud related to LIBOR rate-rigging, both closely watched litigations where the Firm secured settlements totaling over $140 million. In 2020, Veronica was recognized as a Super Lawyers® Rising StarVeronica graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 2008.

Omar Jafri, based in the Firm’s Chicago office, focuses his practice on securities litigation. Omar played an integral role in securing multi-million-dollar settlements in class actions against Juno Therapeutics, Aveo Pharmaceuticals, NantKwest and Thoratec Corporation. He currently plays a key role in the Firm’s representation of investors in connection with several complex cases that involve billions of dollars in damages. Omar graduated, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he was a Harno Scholar and a recipient of the Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy. Omar has been recognized by Super Lawyers® as a Rising Star in Securities Litigation.
